BELLE FOURCHE—In a small town, taking care of each other often shows up in simple but meaningful ways. That spirit was on display May 29 when the Ride or Die Brotherhood and the Circle Lounge came together to present both food collected and money raised to the Compassion Cupboard.

For the presentation, Pastor Chuck Aurand with the Congregational church, was on hand to accept the donations on behalf of the Compassion Cupboard. Well, this means the world to us, it means somebody cares—thats huge,” he said. We go through cycles where we run out of things like beans, right now, we’re really low on beans. We had to go out and buy cereal because we were totally out.”

The Compassion Cupboard is open Tuesdays, 9 a.m. to noon, and Thursdays, 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Aurand shared, Anybody that’s a member of the county can come in and receive food.”

Beginning Friday, April 3rd, Ride or Die Brotherhood held a Queen of Hearts fundraiser at the Circle Lounge. The event went on for six weeks before there was a winner. Ride or Die Brotherhood would like to thank everyone who came out to support the Queen of Hearts raffle. Together we raised $412 for the Compassion Cupboard,” explained Jaylee Hanvelt, national secretary. 30 percent of the earnings from that event went to the Compassion Cupboard.”

After there was a winner to the Queen of Hearts game, the Circle Lounge put out a call for donations of food to be dropped off at their location. Their patrons brought in items that the Compassion Cupboard was in need of, like pork and beans, canned beans, cereal, flour, sugar, and canned fruit.

We would like to thank the Circle Bar for hosting this event,” said Hanvelt. Everyone involved has worked together to offer a food donation as well. Please remember that this organization runs solely on donations—so if you find yourself in a fortunate situation, please try to give back to this amazing community that always looks out for others. We hope that today’s offerings help.”

The two groups plan on having an even bigger Queen of Hearts fundraiser in the fall. Watch for upcoming details.
