BELLE FOURCHE—On a warm summer evening, the sounds of country music filled the park as community members gathered for the latest Hometown Thursdays featuring Jessica Loobey. Held Thursday, July 9, the concert was the sixth event in the popular Thursday night live music series.
Jessica Loobey is an independent Nashville recording artist who plays a variety of her own country songs and a mix of country favorites. Her music got locals up out of their chairs and dancing all evening. This week’s program was sponsored by Spirit of Cheer & Dance, Inc., CBH COOP, Belle Fourche Livestock Market, LLC and Prairie Hills Pharmacy.
There was plenty to keep everyone entertained during this week’s Hometown Thursdays.
Inside the Tri-State Museum, the bouncy house was set up for the kids to enjoy along with a craft corner offering additional activities. Outside, the tiny train escorted kids around the park.
Belle Fourche Area Community Theater was responsible for the 50/50 ticket sales and raised $730. Half of the money was given to one lucky person. The other half went to support BFACT. The theater group was also there to bring attention to their upcoming production. Michael Meemken and Geno Pesicka addressed the crowd.
“Good evening ladies and gentlemen… The Belle Fourche Community Theater will be putting on Minnesela, which is a true story about our sister city—but it’s not all true,” said Pesicka. “I am Sheriff Dave—come join us with Tom Bragg, Emma Williams and the rest of the crew on July 23rd through the 26th at the Belle Fourche Community Theater.”
Meemken added, “Located at the Belle Fourche Rec Center right here in town! Tickets are available on our website at BelleFourcheAct.com.”
The Center of the Nation Cheerleaders hosted a Pie in the Face fundraiser for their continued money-raising effort to perform in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
At one point during her show, Jessica Loobey thanked those in attendance for being a community that supports programs like BFACT with the 50/50 drawing and the Cheerleaders’ Pie in the Face fundraiser.
Food trucks lined the park, offering a variety of options for anyone wanting supper during the evening gathering. Rollin in the Hills, Asian Eatstreet, PooterQ, Pearson Block Candy Shop, Brain Freeze, Mangled Foods, Crazee Cow Ice Cream and Kernels & Kandies were all on-site offering tasty treats.
Hometown Thursdays President Chip Conner took the stage to discuss the upcoming show. “Thanks again, everybody, for showing up. Next week we got Brandon Jones, so make sure to show up here on the river for this—we’ll check it out and see what he’s got up his sleeve! So thank you guys, and thanks to our sponsors, thanks to the vendors and of course thanks to everybody here,” he said.
The weekly Hometown Thursdays concert series is held every Thursday through the first week in August. The summer series only has four bands left to play! Next week, Brandon Jones will be the musical guest. The event begins at 6 p.m. and runs through 9 p.m.
The rest of the summer schedule includes July 16, Brandon Jones; July 23, Wilt Brothers; July 30, Tim Zach Band and August 6, JJ Kent with Aces and 8s.
