NEWELL—Monday nights at the Newell Arena were filled with competition, encouragement and plenty of excitement throughout the summer as riders of all skill levels gathered for the 2026 Newell Family Summer Playday Series. After six scheduled Playdays, the final event was held July 20, bringing another successful summer series to an end.
The first four Playdays, held on June 15, June 22, June 29 and July 6, all came and went without much weather excitement. However, the July 13 Playday took place in the middle of a red flag warning for high temperatures, and after some discussion it was decided to cancel the evening’s events for the safety of all those involved, including the animals. The Playday was not rescheduled to a later date.
Monday, July 27, was the Potluck and Awards Ceremony to honor all those who competed throughout the summer series. To be eligible for year-end awards, participants had to compete in four of the five Playdays and pay for a membership to the organization.
The Newell Christian Fellowship Church became the venue to house the celebration. A taco bar supper was provided, with the Newell Community Club and the Playday Committee providing the taco meat and taco toppings. All families were asked to bring a side dish to share. And with that, the Summer Series is over until next year.
