NEWELL—For the second year in a row, the folks at the NVN Senior Center were treated to a lovely Valentine’s Day–themed concert performed by the Newell School Choir. The community was invited to the center to listen to the talented singers perform on Feb. 17.
Newell Choir student Jace Schulte, kicked off the program as the MC. He welcomed everyone to the show. “Welcome to our Valentine program. We’re here today to have some fun and sing some songs that might just stick in your head all day!”
The choir was made up of both middle school and high school students. They spent close to 30 minutes singing a variety of songs, including “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen, “You Are My Sunshine,” “Marie Laveau,” and “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran.
At the end of the musical show, Choir Director Kimberly Bachman opened the floor to anyone in the audience to ask questions of the performers. “So boys and girls in the crowd, these are all middle schoolers and high schoolers—are there any questions that you would like to ask them? They will answer any questions that you have,” she said.
In turn, she asked the singers if they had any questions for the audience. One singer asked, “What would you rate us?” Without hesitation, the crowd answered back with a unanimous “10!”
According to Bachman, the group began practicing in January to prepare for the Valentine’s Day show. Choir is a popular activity at Newell School, with 32 students participating in the group.
If you missed the musical performance but are interested in watching them perform, mark your calendars for the Newell K-12 Spring Music Program to be held next month, Thursday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m. The program will be held at the Austin Auditorium at Newell School.
