VALE—For as long as most anyone can remember, the annual Pancake Feed at the Vale Community Hall has been a February tradition. This year did not disappoint. The event was held Sunday, February 22.
Hot pancakes, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy were cooked up fresh by the members of the Vale Community Club. Hot coffee, juice and bottled water were also plentiful.
The event is free and held to show appreciation to the community. “It’s more of a community meal that the club puts on—it’s free to the community and donations are welcome but nothing’s required,” explained Angie Hanson, Community Club President. “We just want to get everybody together.”
One big change this year was the time of the event. In the past, the pancake feed was always offered during the supper hours. This year the time shifted to morning hours, beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 1 p.m. “This year we had it during the daytime, usually we have it from like 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., but we’ve decided to change it up because the attendance was kind of low—we thought maybe, if we had it during the daytime, we would get a better turnout,” shared Hanson.
The earlier time for the Pancake Feed coincides with the after-church crowd, who may want to stop by for breakfast! “That’s what we were shooting for, getting the word out to anybody who was attending church, we’d ask the local pastors to remind the congregation about the Pancake Feed,” said Hanson.
Long-time pancake flipper and the head chef every year, Dan Dunn, was on hand once again this year to cook up pancakes for everyone.
Two exciting events are coming up in the near future at the Vale Community Hall. On March 21, you will want to take part in the Spring Fling and beginning in April, bingo will be back, so make sure and mark your calendars to attend the upcoming community events.
