School Records Broken at Queen City Classic Track & Field Meet

On Friday April 10th, the high school track and field team competed in the Queen City Classic in Spearfish against 22 other teams. The Broncs had two athletes who set new school records at the meet.

On the men’s team, Chris Jewett set the school record in the javelin with a throw of 130 feet 7 inches. This broke the previous record set by Anthony Budmyer in 2023 with a throw of 124 feet 3 inches.

On the women’s team, Rhys Pearson set a new school record in the 800 meter run, breaking her own previous record running a 2:19.39.

The Broncs had an additional 17 athletes set PRs (personal records) in their events at the meet and an additional 3 athletes and 2 relay teams move spots on the Belle Fourche High School Top 10 List.

For the men’s team, Corbin Rowe moved into 10th spot for javelin with a throw of 89 feet 7 inches. For the women’s team, Rhyan Knapp moved into number 6 for the javelin with a throw of 67 feet 2 inches, and Ansley O’Brien tied for 8th in high jump with a height of 4 foot 10 inches. The 4×100 relay team of Jaz Olson, Ansley O’Brien, Mikka Dunavant, and Mya Nowowiejski moved into 2nd all time on the record board with a time of 50.42 and the same ladies moved to 3rd all time on the record board in the 4×200 with a time of 1:48 flat.

The Broncs compete next on Tuesday April 14th for a JV meet in Spearfish, followed by the Track O’Rama at O’Harra stadium in Rapid City on Thursday April 16th beginning at 9am then the Center of the Nation Invite at home on Saturday April 18th beginning at 8am.
