Track Season Kicks Off for the Broncs

On Thursday March 26th, the Bronc high school track team had their first meet in Newcastle, Wyoming with some chilly, wet temps in the 30s.

Coach Wattier says, “despite the cold, wet day, the Broncs had some kids step up and give some standout performances.”

On the girl’s side, Ansley O’Brien made the Belle Fourche High School’s Top 10 List in the 200 meter dash. Rhys Pearson won the 1600 meter run.

Lia Mundt, Misty Drieling, Abbey Clendening and Rhys Pearson won the 3200 meter relay race.

On the boy’s side, Joseph McLennan moved up to 9th on the Belle Fourche High School’s Top 10 list in discus and won the shot put.

Gabe Raba moved to 7th on the BFHS Top 10 List in the discus and won the discus event at the Newcastle meet.

The Bronc track and field team has 42 athletes out this year and are looking forward to a full JV and Varsity schedule running through the end of May with State A being held in Sioux Falls on May 28th-30th this year.

This week the Broncs will travel to Sturgis on the 2nd for the Early Bird Invite and to Douglas on the 7th for their Early Bird Invite.

Home invites for the high school track team this year are Saturday April 18th at 8am for the Center of the Nation Invite and Tuesday April 28that 8am for the Northern Hills Invite.

Head coach is Matthew Wattier, distance coach is Brit Clarkson, throwing coach is Kyle Haxton, and jumping coaches are Kyle Graslie and Samantha Comes.

For the Bronc middle school track and field team, the first meet of the year kicks off Tuesday March 31st at Douglas, followed by Tuesday April 7th in Sturgis for a quad.

The middle school has 8 meets planned for the year between March 31st and May 8th.

The home invite for the middle school this year will be on Friday April 17th at the Belle Fourche High School beginning at 9am.

Their season wraps up with Black Hills Conference in Spearfish on May 8th at 9am.

Head coach for the BFMS track and field team is Sarah Thompson, with assistants, Brody Benson, Lars Dunavant, and Karlee Gusso.
