Newell School District K-12 Christmas Program

Newell News Other Local News

Oh, what a night in Newell, Thursday December 11th when the kindergarten through twelfth grade took the stage during the annual Newell School District’s Christmas program.

Under the direction of Kimberly Bachman, the evening was filled with entertainment. “I have taught the students you can be a performer, or you can be an entertainer. When you perform, the audience watches you. When you entertain, you interact with an audience, and you invite them to your party on stage. The energy can be contagious.”

The students chose to be entertainers and contagious, it certainly was!

The students drew in the audience with their singing, dancing, and instrumental skills. Kindergarten and first grade belted out Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Little Snowflake. The Second and Third Grade delighted the audience with their memorization of the lengthy list of specific descriptions in Must Be Santa then boogied to It is a Boogie Woogie Holiday. When the Fourth and Fifth grade took the stage, they revealed a part of their Christmas list being Superhero Action figures which led into the singing of the traditional Lone Ranger Song followed by You’ve Got a Friend in Me.

They ended with Holly Jolly Christmas to which the young men, with intentions to make the audience laugh, danced their fun dance to the cheers of the audience. Middle School and High School Choir entered the stage with traditional Christmas songs. A breakout all lady ensemble sang a beautiful rendition of Silver Bells.

The fifth-grade band entertained with Jingle Bells and Jolly Old St. Nicholas in a flawless fashion. This was their first concert. They played with such confidence and joy it wowed the audience.

Next was the middle school and high school band. A new drumline has started this year. It was the first time to show off “drumline cool.” They did just that! Sporting sunglasses and top hats, they smoothly played their cadences. The rest of the band joined them on Good King Wenceslas and Dreidel song followed by their final piece Ode to Joy.

The evening ended with a grand finale of Run Run Rudolph, a favorite of the children. They not only sang the song, but they also danced to the audience’s delight. In fact, the energy was so contagious, a few people in the audience got up and danced along.

Excitement, joy, and pride prevailed when the students at Newell School District presented their program.

We were so very pleased to have Mrs. Marty Jump as the piano accompaniment.

It was an evening, that will not be forgotten anytime soon! Merry Christmas!
