NEWELL—The Newell School District held its spring concert with ADYM on Thursday, April 25. The theme for the night was “Yesterday’s Dream: Encourages Unity Between Nations and Building a Better Future Together.” Alongside the concert was an art show and a book fair.

The evening began with the awarding of certificates for students’ work in the art show. The concert then started with a performance of “Do-Re-Mi” and “Miss Mary Mack” by the kindergarten and first grade classes.

Several different genres of music were showcased throughout the concert, ranging from classical to pop and acoustic to rock. Third graders played “Scarborough Fair” on the recorder, an example of traditional music. The fourth-grade class sang “Cowboy Rides Away,” a country song.

Singing performances were followed by the fifth-grade beginner band, who played “We Will Rock You.”

The Newell Chorus then sang the night’s theme songs, “Heal the World,” and “Yesterday’s Dream.”

The Community Band played “Low Rider” to the whoop-whoop of students and then highlighted “Wipe Out” for a band finale.

The final song of the night brought together all elementary classes, K-5, to send the crowd off with a performance of “Take Me Home Country Roads.”

The master of the program was music teacher Adhara B. Malunes, assisted by Kim Bachman and local musicians.
