NEWELL—For the week ending January 25, the Newell Irrigators delivered an impressive showing, with every basketball team, boys and girls alike, bringing home a victory.
At a small school that sometimes faces challenges fielding full teams, this sweep is no minor accomplishment. Small but mighty, the Newell Irrigators continue to prove they don’t give up!
Both the high school girls and boys teams competed in the two-day Little Moreau Conference (LMC) Basketball Tournament hosted by the Lemmon School District. The girls team, led by Coach Luke Bonefield, edged out Dupree in a thrilling nail-biter, defeating the Tigers 54–53.
On the boys side, head coach Chad Oliver guided his squad to a strong win as the Irrigators took on the McIntosh Tigers and came away victorious.
Success carried through all levels of play. Coach High and the middle school boys team defeated the Belle Fourche Broncs at the Newell Quad. The 1st and 2nd grade team also picked up a win against Belle Fourche, while the 3rd and 4th grade team capped off the week with a victory over the Sundance Bulldogs.
From the youngest players to the varsity teams, it was a week to remember for Irrigator basketball.
