NEWELL-The second annual Parade of Lights was held Friday, December 19 after being postponed a week due to unpleasant weather. The night was lit by several entries enjoyed by the crowd.
It seemed that the parade was even more impressive than the 2024 parade, with colorful lights on cars, trucks, and trailers.
The parade set the theme for the Christmas season as Christmas draws closer.
Also enjoyed during the dark hours of evening were a few lights decorating the streets poles.
After two years of nonfunctioning Christmas lights on the street poles, several students in the Industrial Arts Class worked at getting on of the first lights mounted on a pole on Third Street. Teacher Vincent Brechtel, students Jace, Karly, Brendt, and Jonah labored together to make the dream happen. Newell Commissioner Josh Mackaben and Public Works Superintendent Bill helped to place the lights. The lights are solar powered.
Plans are being made for next year. This annual event brings the holiday season to life (and light)!
