The 2025 Newell Labor Day Celebration will soon be upon us! Begin making your plans to attend the annual event with exciting activities planned from August 23 through September 1. One of the highlights this year will be the opportunity to see the new arena grandstands that were just installed in June of this year!
New royalty will be crowned at 6:30 p.m. at the Rodeo Queen Coronation on Saturday, August 23. You can watch the hopeful queen contestants compete in the Rodeo Queen Pageant earlier that day, with the competition starting at 8:30 a.m. Then the weekend kicks off the next Friday, August 29 with the Quilt Show Check In from 1 to 4 p.m. at the City Hall. The Newell Museum will also be open from 1 to 5 p.m.
Bright and early on Saturday, August 30 is the 5K Run/Walk, which opens for registration at 7 a.m. Walkers then start at 7:30 a.m., while runners will start at 7:45 a.m. The Whistle Stop Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the NVN Center. The Quilt Show and the Newell Museum will be open for viewing from 1 to 5 p.m. at City Hall.
That afternoon, be sure to catch the Ranch Rodeo and Calcutta, which starts at 1:30 p.m. at the rodeo arena. Then, at about 3:30 p.m. there will be Corgi Races at the arena! That evening, be sure to swing by the Fireman’s BBQ from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Fire Hall. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. behind the ram sale pens, there will be FFA Goat Roping, come watch kids and adults try to catch goats as fast as they can! And to round out the night, check out the Newell Bar Dance featuring live music by Williams & Wright, starting at 9 p.m. at the Newell Bar.
Sunday, August 31 is also packed with activities, starting with the J.D. Mutchler Memorial Team Roping. Breakaway roping will start at 10 a.m. followed by team roping. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at South Park, there will be a car show. The afternoon brings several activities including the Tractor Pull at 2:30 p.m. on Girard Street, Chicken Bingo at South Park at 1 p.m., and the Corn Hole Tournament, also at South Park, at 2 p.m.
For little ones, the Newell Christian Fellowship Bouncy House will be open 12 to 4 p.m. at South Park. Once again the Quilt Show and Newell Museum will be open for viewing from 1 to 5 p.m. at City Hall.
Finally, Monday, September 1 is the big day! On Labor Day, the Labor Day Parade starts at 10 a.m. with lineup and registration open at 9 a.m. In front of the Quilt Bank will be a delicious bake sale starting at 7 a.m. and running until sold out.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at South Park will be the Midwestern Meat Locker Frank Cookout.
It will be another fun day for the youth with kids’ games and a bouncy house sponsored by First National Bank starting at 10:30 a.m. at South Park. The biggest event of the day, the Newell Labor Day Rodeo, starts at 1 p.m. at the arena with slack running from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. That evening, swing by the NVN Center from 6 to 8 p.m. for some good old Bingo! The Newell Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Labor Day, and Quilt Show viewing and pickup will run from 1 to 3 p.m. that day.
