BELLE FOURCHE—The Belle Silver Lining held its 2nd Annual Cornhole Tournament at the Moose Lodge on the morning of July 26.
The Cornhole event is a fundraiser for Belle Silver Lining. Rita Bollwitt, Board President explained, “We do several fundraisers throughout the year—being a nonprofit, our funding comes from either grants or community support and then the fundraisers that we do throughout the year.”
Coming up with new ideas to garner public interest takes some planning. “This is actually the second year that we’ve done this and we had fun last year! And so we wanted to keep making an annual thing of it! It has grown this year,” said Bollwitt.
In addition to the tournament, the group held a 50/50 drawing, gave door prizes and sold tickets to a gun raffle that will be drawn on September 1. There is still time to grab some tickets if you want in on the chance of winning a Henry Golden Boy Lever Action 22 rifle.
Tony Ramirez with Northern Hills Cornhole was in charge of the tournament. “This format is a bring-your-own-partner teams tournament with double elimination,” he explained. “So if you lose once, you can ultimately come back and win the whole campaign!”
The fun thing about cornhole is that anyone can play—from young to old, male or female. Ramirez said, “So you have people from youngest—he’s probably 10 years old to probably 60 or 70 years old—I’m 63 years old! Anyone can play!”
The Moose Lodge had pulled pork sandwiches and drinks for sale inside during the tournament and provided the location free of charge.
Silver Lining already has plans for their next fundraiser. Mark your calendar for September 22, 2026 as Joe Wiegand will be in Belle Fourche for a show located at the stage in the Rec Center at 7:00 p.m. Bollwitt shared, “He is a Theodore Roosevelt impersonator and he’s known across the world, he does a regular show at Medora.”
As always, if you are interested in volunteering, Silver Lining is always looking!
