BELLE FOURCHE—For the 17th year in a row the Nisland-Arpan Volunteer Fire and Rescue held their annual Brisket Feed at the Nisland Fire Hall on August 2.

The volunteers started serving food at 10 a.m. but the preparations for the event began well before then.

Everything has to be prepared and ready to go the minute hungry patrons show up!

“We start with like 250 pounds of brisket and 150 pounds of pork,” explained Stan Lewis, Fire Chief. There was also baked beans, coleslaw, chips and drinks. After everyone finished eating, cups of ice cream were offered.

Coinciding with the Brisket Feed was the 18th Annual Nisland-Arpan Volunteer Fire & Rescue Auxiliary Pie Sale. Pies sold for $15 each.

Tables were set up along the side wall to display silent auction items for anyone who wanted to bid on and go home with a cool item. Businesses all over the area donated items to support the Nisland-Arpan Volunteer Fire and Rescue.

Some of the items included a 20v cordless grease gun donated by Butte County Equipment, a one-night stay at the Mineral Palace, Godiva Dark Chocolate Liqueur donated by the Newell Bar, Rodeo Tin Sign donated by Yes Way Liquor Store, rechargeable work light donated by Dakota Lumber, Jump Stater donated by Sturdevants Auto Value and many more items donated by generous businesses all over the area.

The money raised this year has a purpose. Lewis said, “Right now we’re putting it towards updating our tender truck. We’re hoping to update our tender 77—it’s an older truck—we’re hoping to upgrade it and make us better!”

The Fire & Rescue crew couldn’t have a successful fundraiser without the community getting involved. “We really appreciate the support we get from from the community,” said Lewis.

If there is any brisket left at the end of the day it won’t go to waste! There are plans for it already! “We hope to have a little bit left over because we have Fire School in two weeks,” explained Lewis. “We hope to serve out of here again for that.”
