Saturday July 26th’s 4th Annual Community Soccer game was opened with a dedication tribute to Dr. Jim Trimble.
Soccer Board President Ryan Cherveny’s invitation to the special event was the most fitting tribute to the man who loved the community and the sport. It reads as follows:
“Hello,
I wanted to invite you to this weekend’s (July 26th) Saturday night 4th annual Belle Fourche Community Game at 7:30pm. There will be a dedication to Dr. Jame Trimble. Several from his family will be there in attendance to include his children who are now soccer coaches and also college players. Most of his family is unaware of the sign and this will be a surprise for them also.
I will be not be speaking at the dedication as I will be out of town. A high school student made the sign that will be hung on the crow’s nest at the field.
Honoring Dr. James Trimble Today, we gather for the 4th Annual Belle Fourche Community Game. But before the kickoff, we would like to honor the legacy of Dr. James Trimble—a man who poured his heart into this community and left an unforgettable mark on Belle Fourche soccer.
As a former soccer board member, I was asked by the Soccer Board President if I could help present this honor in his absence, as I have been fortunate to have cheered alongside Jim as we watched our children grow up playing the game we all love.
Many of us will remember him pacing the sidelines during games, often offering his own colorful commentary on the calls being made.
And who could forget his antics—like the time he taped his mouth shut with red duct tape just to avoid getting in trouble with the refs again!
When the crow’s nest was completed, Jim found his new perch. He’d sit up top filming the games live on Facebook, giving some of the best play-by-play commentary and opinions! But he shared his love of the game with everyone. Jim wasn’t just a supporter; he was behind the scenes builder of this program.
From coaching youth teams to offering financial support and he promoted soccer in Belle Fourche, his contributions helped shape what we have today.
Last year, numerous community members approached the soccer board to ask about keeping Dr. Trimbles’ passion going. It’s because of this passion and commitment that the Belle Fourche Soccer Association, with the help of the City of Belle Fourche, and the High school, are renaming the crow’s nest as “Trimble Tower.” It’s a small way to say thank you for a lifetime of giving back and to ensure that his spirit and enthusiasm continues every time a Belle Fourche player looks up. Jim taught us all the value of community, hard work, and joy in the game. His legacy lives on in every player, coach, and family who has been touched by this program.”
(In addition Jim was the Beacon’s first Sportswriter. He not only cov- ered soccer, but wrote on Basketball and football games as well. Well done my friend!
He truly is an individual who is missed and will never be forgotten.)
