BELLE FOURCHE—The official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Pioneer Trust & Estate Services building was held on July 22. The new building is set to open 35 years after Pioneer Trust & Estate Services opened its current offices in the Don Pratt building.
Seventy years after Pioneer Bank received Trust Powers from the Federal Reserve, the Trust and Estate Services department will get its very own building dedicated to serving its customers. “We have trust officers in Rapid City, Spearfish and Belle Fourche and those offices also serve Buffalo and Sturgis. Our core accounting and operations center is here in Belle Fourche,” explained Cherie Coleman, Sr. Vice President & Trust Dept. Manager. “This new location will help us to be more efficient in our operations and definitely more accessible to our clients—no stairs!”
Ainsworth Benning and 3 Peak Architecture are in charge of the construction. “This new building will be about 5,000 square feet. We will have 10 offices, a big conference room and a smaller conference room—it will have similar attributes to the recently remodeled Pioneer Bank location,” shared Coleman.
The new building will be located at 716 8th Avenue in Belle Fourche. With roots dating back to its founding in 1913, Pioneer Bank & Trust opened its Belle Fourche branch in 1937. The bank has been serving the community for nearly nine decades and continues to invest in its future.
The building project is set to be finished by mid-2027, although Coleman has a more personal goal in mind. “My goal is to have it done before the Fourth of July, because our Mary Buchholz…well, she has always been really unhappy that they moved the parade from coming down State Street, and I really want her to be sitting in our boardroom watching the parade—that’s my whole goal!”
Along with the new building, Pioneer Bank will also create Pioneer Park, a green and welcoming space for the community to enjoy. The park will be located directly behind the Pioneer Bank & Trust parking lot.
As the project moves forward, Coleman expressed appreciation for the leadership and community support that have helped Pioneer Bank continue to grow and serve the region.
“We are thankful to Dylan Clarkson, our CEO, who has been key to the “building” of our Pioneer Bank locations in both the literal and figurative meaning of the word during his tenure,” she said. “We thank Belle Fourche as well as our communities from Buffalo to Rapid City for supporting us and trusting us with their families. We will be excited to see you all back for a grand opening in mid-2027!”
