Service Station Gets Patriotic Makeover from Volunteers

Belle Fourche News Other Local News

BELLE FOURCHE—What was once a weathered and overgrown service station across from the Butte County Courthouse is now a patriotic display of red, white and blue, thanks to a team of United Way volunteers.

On Saturday, May 23, the volunteer crew spent the day cleaning up and removing all the junk from the property. They picked up old branches, gathered garbage, and cut down all the weeds that were taking over the place. Troy Green Jr. picked up the scrap metal.

On Friday, May 29, the hardworking group went to work on beautifying the property. In honor of the 250th birthday of America, the volunteers painted the old worn walls, curbs, and doors in a vibrant blue color, and the brick planters were painted in a red, white, and blue theme. Dakota Lumber donated the supplies for the project.

After the planters were cleaned and painted in a patriotic finish, they were filled with flowers.

Those who came together and gave their time on the project include Suzanne Campbell, Larry Schmaltz, Bob Bachman, Renee Bachman, Hope Cohn, Vernon Talkington, Kathy Hogen, Chuck Lawless, Bonnie Lawless, David Prozeller, Nikki Hoyme, and Clint Haffner.

Rainstorms showed up during their working weekend, so they had to postpone the last few finishing touches to an upcoming weekend, but no one was complaining, just thankful for the much-needed moisture.
