Newell News Other Local News

NEWELL—Good food for a good cause was served up at the Newell Lions Club Pancake Supper on April 17. In exchange for a freewill donation, one could enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy.

The Newell area community showed up to support the Lions Club and help them raise money to support a variety of local community causes.

The Newell Lions Club awards a college scholarship to a Newell High School graduate, offers eye screenings and glasses, assists with summer camp costs, supports medical crisis funds, collects tickets at school sporting events and maintains the beautification of the Newell community.

Club President Judy Heisler shared, tonights fundraiser will go toward helping with scholarships, so we dont get low on money. Itll be a $400 scholarship for somebody at Newell High School.”

Now that it is springtime, the Lions Club will be busy taking care of the public areas around Newell. “We have a flower garden and we plant trees and water the trees in the cemetery,” shared John Heisler, Vice President. Judy added, “Yes, we will plant more trees and get all the flowers—and take care of the benches that are in there—so we need money to support that too.”

The evening also included a silent auction and a bake sale.

The Newell Lions Club is always looking for new members to get involved with volunteering and giving back to the community. If you would like to join the Newell Lions Club, contact a member at 605-210-2586.
