Naloxone (Narcan) is a safe easy-to-use medication that reverses opioid overdoses, including those caused by fentanyl, heroin, and prescription opioids. It works by blocking the effects of opioids in the brain, restoring normal breathing within minutes. Naloxone has no potential for abuse or addiction. It does not produce a high and is safe even if accidentally administered.

According to the CDC, South Dakota was one of only two state with rising overdose deaths in 2024. The state saw 88 fatal overdoses. As overdoses continue to climb in South Dakota, access to naloxone is more critical than ever.

Each kit contains two doses of naloxone as a nasal spray. Studies show that access to naloxone does not increase drug use and actually encourages treatment.
