VALE—Sunshine and warm spring weather welcomed visitors to the first ever Spring Fling Vendor and Craft Fair on March 21 at the Vale Community Hall.

The Spring Fling event provided an opportunity for local businesses to come together and offer up their wares to the public. As the first gathering of the season, the event drew a strong turnout. Quite a few people showed up to support small businesses and shop for unique items. A total of 22 vendors were on display at the Vale Community Center.

Smokin’ Hot Catering LLC provided lunch for the event. They served up smoked cuisine that included chopped beef, pulled pork, BBQ nachos, Cuban sandwich and Bay of Pigs sandwich along with sides of coleslaw, corn casserole and smoked Mac N Cheese.

Small business owners Jessica Gatzke and Laura Wiedewitsch worked together to host the event. So I actually did the Small Business Saturday down here and we just asked if we could do another event down here for local vendors that don’t have a storefront—so they can come out and show off their products and get their name out there,” explained Gatzke.

Gatzke owns Wild Lightening Boutique and Wiedewitsch owns Tastefully Simple. Both ladies had booths for the event and travel around the area to other vendor events. I also put on the vendors down at the Butte Lawrence County Fair and I do Cowboy Christmas,” said Gatzke.

The duo expressed how supportive the Vale Community Hall Board members have been.
“They share our event like crazy for us on Facebook, and yes, they’re very supportive,” shared Wiedewitsch.
