BELLE FOURCHE—Shockwaves, chair massages and tasty hors d’oeuvres greeted visitors at the February Chamber of Commerce Mixer hosted by Belle Chiropractic & Massage on Tuesday, Feb. 17. Guests had the chance to experience the clinic’s innovative services firsthand while networking with other local business leaders.
Dr. Colton Backhaus was set up and ready to introduce all Chamber Mixer visitors to what his business has to offer. He had an area set up to demonstrate his Shockwave machine, a unique service that isn’t easy to find in this area. “It’s a radial pressure wave—it’s called shockwave. So think of shock wave like an explosion—it shoots in the tissue and breaks up scar tissue adhesions and helps regenerate healthy tissue—it’s kind of like rebuilding the house,” he shared. “When you hit a spot that’s tender, you can really feel it!”
A fellow chamber member from Quality Quick Print, Trevor Madsen, sat down to give the Shockwave a try. He has chronic knee pain. After a few minutes of treatment, he was quite impressed. “It’s like it is good, but at the same time, it’s not super comfortable! Normally, no matter what I do, if I move it (knee) it normally clicks, and right now it feels very loose and the rest of it feels pretty good!”
The Shockwave machine can treat a variety of issues. “You would come in for many different issues, especially tennis elbow, rotator cuff, knee arthritis or plantar fasciitis,” said Backhaus.
Another room was set up to give free chair massages. The newest addition to Belle Chiropractic & Massage is massage therapist Jocelyn Wallace. She arrived at the business just one day prior to the mixer but was ready to give massages. Her services include Swedish, relaxation, therapeutic massage, sports & lifestyle recovery, medical massage, prenatal massage, cupping, scraping (IASTM), trigger point therapy and hot rock therapy.
Dr. Backhaus took over Belle Chiropractic & Massage from Dr. Abby Johnson four years ago. He grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota, and discovered and fell in love with the Black Hills area when he was an undergraduate at Black Hills State University. He left to finish his education but knew he wanted to come back one day. “I wanted to come back over here somewhere, and Dr. Abby was ready to be done…and so I only worked here for like six months, and then I took over the clinic,” shared Backhaus.
The Dr. has been enjoying getting to know the community. “It’s been super good! I really like it. I played golf league last year and that was super fun—getting to meet everybody. All of the patients have been really good too!”
Belle Chiropractic & Massage Manager and Colton’s mom, Tammy Backhaus, worked hard making all of the hors d’oeuvres for the Chamber Mixer. She prepared an elaborate spread of finger foods and refreshments.
Michaela Horn, Chamber Executive Director, welcomed everyone to the mixer and held the Connect and Collect drawing. The drawing is $385. To be entered into the drawing, participants must be Belle Fourche Chamber members and be present to win. If the person or business is not present, the entire pot rolls over to the next month. Hersrudes won the cash pot, but no one from the business was at the mixer, so the pot will carry over to next month.
The monthly mixers are designed to provide businesses the opportunity to get together and spend time learning about each other, networking and connecting in a relaxed atmosphere. The next mixer will be March 26 at Highland Senior Solutions, starting at 4:30 p.m.
