The Broncs wrestlers travelled to Hettinger, North Dakota on Friday January 9th and Saturday the 10th for a two day pool-style tournament. In a pool tournament wrestlers face off within their weight classes on day one, then are bracketed according to results for day two.
This provides a chance at more matches within a tournament.
The Lady Broncs had 4 competing wrestlers at this tournament. Jasmine Reason took 4th place, Charlie Huston and Annabelle Dighton each took 3rd place and Kyra Vandenberg took 1st place in their respective weight classes. The ladies took 4th place in team scores.
Kyra Vandenberg has made the South Dakota State Leader Board for 3 point near-falls at #2 and for takedowns at #3 as of this weekend.
The boys’ team had a great showing as well with 3 JV wrestlers, Jace Hiles taking 4th, Jaxson Linch taking 3rd, and Dyllan Park taking 1st in their respective weigh classes. In Varsity, Caden Swaney took 2nd, Jace Olson took 8th, Teedin Humble took 8th, Cooper Conry took 5th, Preston Lake competed at 132lbs, Garet Huston took 5th, Kolb Tibbs took 8th, Riley Dighton took 1st, Koby Bowden took 4th, Dillon Streeter took 6th, and Luke Tonsager took 2nd.
The boys team placed 5th as a team, missing the team trophy by a mere 3 points.
Riley Dighton was awarded the “Outstanding Boys Wrestler” for the 152-285lb weight classes, as well as broke the Bronc High School Record Board for career pins this weekend!
The Broncs compete next on Thursday, January 15th in Spearfish in a quadrangular against Rapid City Central, Douglas and Spearfish, followed by the Black Hills Conference tournament being held in Spearfish this year on Saturday, January 17th where they hope to defend their title as conference champs.
