BELLE FOURCHE—Years of friendship created the perfect partnership for the ladies behind the Red Onion Marketplace and Posy Palace when the two businesses teamed up to offer a Pop-Up Bakery Day at the Posy Palace Florist on January 23.
“I think it’s just such a good combination and we’ve known each other forever—been friends forever—so I don’t know which of us decided to do this, but it works,” explained Shelly Kapsa, owner of Posy Palace.
Robin Ager, the talented baker and owner behind Red Onion Marketplace, crafted an abundance of fresh-baked, from-scratch breads and desserts, including pies, sweet rolls, scones and cookies, for the event.
During the summer months, the Red Onion offers a Farm Stand full of garden-grown produce and fresh-baked goodies.
During the off season, Ager finds ways to stay busy. “We did two (Pop-Ups) last year and will do four this year,” she said. “We’re gonna do Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Mother’s Day. Today was just a random day—a fun way to break up the monotony of the winter!”
Kapsa has owned the flower store for the past 23 years. The thought of closing down during the cold snap was out of the question for her. “Never! My hours are short but consistent,” she said. “We’ve been very busy today,” added Ager.
In addition to the fresh-baked goods, shoppers could enjoy a hot cup of apple cider and, of course, beautiful flowers, bouquets and gift items available in the store.
The friends have known each other since high school. Ager said, “Our children were friends, too!”
If you missed this Pop-Up event, plan on attending the next one! “We’ll be teamed up together for Valentine’s Day—the Friday before it because Valentine’s is a Saturday,” shared Ager.
As for the hours, the marketplace and flower shop will run as long as they can! “I think that’ll be our big day. I don’t know how long we’ll run. We’re gonna be starting to sell out—so get in here and get it while you can,” added Kapsa.
