NEWELL—Ho, ho, ho! Santa Claus made his way to the little town of Newell to spread Christmas cheer and visit with excited children during the Santa Day event on December 13, 2025.
Every year during the holiday season, the Newell Community Club works hard to bring a very special Christmas celebration to the kids of the area.
City Hall was transformed into a holiday playground for all to enjoy. There were stations set up for the little ones to take part in a variety of activities. One booth was a hot chocolate station, one was designated to decorate sugar cookies and yet another one was set up to craft Christmas ornaments.
Half of the room was set up for a cake walk, with a large circle of numbered squares taped to the floor. The kids walked from square to square while the music played. When the music stopped, a number was drawn and whoever was lucky enough to be on that numbered square got to take home a baked goodie! The Labor Day Rodeo Royalty helped keep the cake walk rolling along.
Another part of the room was set up to enjoy a taco bar, with taco meat being donated by Denna Lindsey, Laura Wierzbicki, Teri Blanchart, Judy Heisler and Sherry and Kurt Hocking. Doritos and sour cream were donated by Kurt and Dawn Olson.
One of the highlights of the night is the giveaway of eight brand new bikes. Kids signed up according to their age groups and a drawing was held at the end of the night. Age groups were separated by girls and boys and were ages 0–3, 4–6, 7–9 and 10–12.
With all of the excitement and fun the kids were having throughout the evening, it is hard to imagine they could get any more excited, but the arrival of jolly old Saint Nick put that to the test! The arrival of the special guest, Santa, did the trick! He took his seat on a big wooden throne and one by one the young’uns sat on his lap and told him what they wanted for Christmas. It was a very special day made just for the children.
Santa Day wouldn’t be complete without the support of the community, and once again they came through in a big way. Local residents baked cakes, cookies and other goodies that were used as prizes for games and the cake walk. The Community Club asked for help ahead of the event: “This Saturday is Santa Day, and with it comes the eagerly anticipated cake walk that brings so much joy to the kids! We’re counting on the community’s support once again to make this event truly special. Your contributions of homemade goodies and sweet treats to be given as prizes for the games will make a real difference.” The response was overwhelming, with tables filled with homemade treats to help bring smiles to the kids’ faces.
