Community Comes Together for Harvest Festival and Trunk-or-Treat

NEWELL—On a chilly Halloween evening, it is nice to have a warm place to go to celebrate the holiday. Kids of all ages were invited to come in costume to the annual Harvest Festival and Trunk-or-Treat at the Newell City Hall on October 31.

City Hall was transformed into a fun, festive place filled with games, candy and more! The smell of fresh popcorn filled the air. Around the outside of the room, booths were set up to host games for the children. A fishing pond, cornhole, tic-tac-toe, ring toss and bowling were among the games provided for entertainment with lots of great prizes for the winners.

An elaborate picture area was set up with a fall backdrop, pumpkins, scarecrows and hay bales to document the evening with a snapshot.

When anyone needed a break from candy and games for a moment and a place to sit down, participants could grab a hot dog and chips provided by the Blue Line Diner or a drink as First National Bank donated bottled water. Tables were set up for them to sit and enjoy their meal.

While the Halloween event has been around for many years, there is a newer addition to the evening. Trunk-or-Treating is offered just outside of City Hall on the street in front of the building. All of the cars and trucks backed in so the youth could stay on the sidewalk and collect treats safely.

Many area businesses and organizations created Trunk-or-Treat booths to provide the youth in the area a fun and safe evening. That included FFA, Newell Volunteer Fire Department, Dollar General, Newell Bar, Butte County Sheriff’s Department and Butte-Meade Water.

The evening is sponsored by the W.I.T. Coalition with the goal of providing a fun, educational and safe place for area families. An event like this cant be successful without support from the community. The City donated the use of the building, and candy or money donations were provided by Butte Electric, Newell Community Club, Lindsey Ranches and Newell Lions Club.
