Margie Bolte likes to write. Last summer her story ‘Cleopatra the Cat’ won first place honors in the South Dakota State Fair Literature competition. ‘Cleopatra the Cat’ is a story of deception, mystery, discovery, and a mysterious visitor.
In October, Margie attended a play writing workshop hosted by the Belle Fourche Area Community Theater (BFACT). “In the workshop, I was shown how to format my story into a short play.” Margie explained.
Altogether there were six short 10-minute plays performed. “Within ten days of writing and rehearsals, the short plays were performed on stage at the Belle Fourche Community Hall. It was awesome!” Margie said.
BFACT actors performed in the plays. ToiLyn and Kaitlyn Roth played the parts of the two characters in Margie’s play. “To see the story come to life on stage was surreal. My fiction story, words on paper, came alive. The characters were performed perfectly.”
Margie was grateful for the experience. “I am grateful to Isabella Quijano, who was
the leader of our playwright workshop and moderator for the performances. Crystal Woods, who directed ‘Cleopatra the Cat, and thanks also to Derek Olson Director of BFACT, who allowed local community writers to write a short play. This was a wonderful opportunity to expand my writing.”
