August 4 City Council Meeting

Belle Fourche News

The City Council held its first meeting of the month on Monday, August 4. During community input, Marvin Poland addressed the Council to raise concerns about ongoing maintenance issues on the east side of Meadowlark Plaza. He pointed out significant weed infestation, several dead trees, and a buildup of trash in the area.

The Chamber of Commerce thanked the Belle Fourche Public Works Department and all who helped with the Heroes Honor Ride, and welcomed several new members, including Blue Belle Vacation Rental and Western Dakota Tech Foundation. The August Chamber Mixer will be held Thursday, August 14, hosted by Highmark Federal Credit Union with food from Rolling in the Hills and a celebration of Highmark’s 85th anniversary. Looking ahead, Ag Day is set for Friday, September 27 at the Rodeo Grounds and will feature family activities, local vendors, and ag-themed contests.

The Museum & Visitor Center reported that in July, the museum welcomed 3,187 visitors from all 50 states, Washington, DC, and 17 countries, including Australia, Germany, India, and the United Kingdom. While there was no First Saturday Brunch due to its overlap with Roundup week, the museum hosted a Family Fun Day on Magnets and Magnetism; three bus tours; a visit from Fountain Springs in Rapid City; Road Scholars; and six nights of Hometown Thursday, making it a busy month. Several new artifacts were added to the collection, including a set of jury box chairs from a Wyoming courtroom now featured in the Law Exhibit and an antique silver coffee and tea service displayed in the Pioneer Home exhibit. Auditions for the 1903 production “Your Friend, Ida” will be held on August 11 and 12 from 6 to 8 p.m.with roles available for six women and one man. No experience or memorization required!

The next City Council meeting will be held August 18 at 6 p.m.
