From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 2, locals came to Rail Park to enjoy a delicious Burger Bash and support the Belle Fourche FFA chapter. Attendees got to have hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks served by FFA members for a free-will donation. This was the event’s fifth year of connecting the community with FFA.
“So this is the annual Burger Bash, the Chamber helps us put on,” explained Austin Bishop, Belle Fourche FFA Advisor. “They wanted to do something downtown during the Fourth of July, and asked if the FFA chapter would want to come help serve it and kind of do it as a free-will donation—little bit of fundraiser, more community-service oriented. Because the community serves our kids so much, we decided we wanted to give back, and it’s just been a great thing. We’re trying to draw some people downtown to help out the businesses as well that support us.”
Proceeds from the Burger Bash go towards funding FFA activities and events. “The money we raise for this goes to leadership camps, we send our officers to leadership camps,” said Bishop. “Also our National Convention in October, it goes to a lot of that. We also do other community services throughout the year, and so any extra funds, if the kids want to spend it for that, we try to give back that way too.”
The students even took some plates to the Police Department to feed the officers. 200 burgers and 80 hot dogs were prepared for the Bash.
