On Thursday January 11th the Broncs fell short in a dual against Sturgis, with Riley Dighton earning one win for the team over Sturgis’ number four ranked Beau Peters.
The Black Hills Conference meet scheduled for Saturday January 13th in Hot Springs was postponed due to inclement weather and rescheduled for Friday February 2nd.
Saturday January 20th, the Broncs traveled to Chadron, Nebraska for a tournament. Twenty-four teams from Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana and South Dakota competed in a tough tournament with five Broncs earning a spot in placing rounds. Garet Huston placed 5th at 120 pounds, Alex Norlin placed 6th at 132 pounds, Riley Dighton placed 4th at 138 pounds, Clifford Torberson placed 5th at 144 pound JV, and Luke Tonsager placed 4th at 215 pounds.
Other Broncs competing were Teeden Humble and Conner Crowser at 106 pounds, Koby Bowden at 126 pounds, Owyn Schreder at 150 pounds, Peyton Alexander at 157 pounds, Zach Tonsager at 165 pounds, Spencer Bush-Graslie at 175 pounds, Trigg Olson at 190 pounds and Mason Nehl at 285 pounds. The team placed 10th overall.
The five Lady Broncs placed 5th overall out of 20 girls teams competing.Kyra Vandenburg won her bracket at 100 pounds and was awarded the tournament’s Outstanding Girl Wrestler! Lia Mundt competed at 105 pounds, Joselyn Shockey placed 6th at 140 pounds, and Olivia Nehl placed 2nd at 155 pounds for an excellent showing.
The wrestlers will compete next in the two day Belle Fourche Invite, our home tournament, on Friday January 26th at 11am and Saturday January 27th at 9am in the Belle Fourche High School gym.
Followed by rescheduled Black Hills Conference meet in Hot Springs Friday February 2nd, then the Hill City Invite on Saturday February 3rd.
