The Belle Fourche Chess Club put in a rated US Chess (USCF) blitz tournament on December 14th. Club advisor and South Dakota Chess Association president, Jordan Esmay ran the tournament. 33 students and adults from Belle Fourche, Sturgis, Spearfish, and Rapid City participated. In the K-5 division the winners were: 1st Liam Stahl (Spearfish), 2nd Daelin Haivala (Rapid City), 3rd Levi Stahl (Spearfish). In the 6-12 division: 1st John McGrath Rapid City), 2nd Elizabeth Chmura (Rapid City), 3rd Turner Williams (Belle Fourche). In the Open section: 1st Brogan McGrath (Rapid City), 2nd Luke Markworth (Spearfish), 3rd Eli Heilman. Students were all able to get a free USCF membership through the USCF Title 1 Outreach program that Mr. Esmay applied to this Fall.
