NEWELL—Santa Day was a hit this year at the Newell City Hall. The event, which has been a staple in the community during the holiday season for decades, was hosted by the Newell Community Club on Saturday, December 16. Spearheaded by Morgan Wulf of the Community Club, Santa Day aimed to bring the community together in the spirit of giving and celebration for our youth.
The evening kicked off at 5:30, welcoming families to an enchanting holiday atmosphere and the promise of an entertainment-filled evening. A spaghetti dinner was provided, along with a hot cocoa station. The event catered to the little ones with a variety of engaging activities and games, ensuring that every child could find a source of holiday-themed fun. From the classic cake walk to the coloring station, cookie decorating, Christmas card signing, and several mini games, the kids reveled in the holiday spirit. Goodie bags full of treats were donated by members of the community and given to those that participated in the activities.
Santa Claus himself stopped by the event, charming the children with his festive Christmas cheer. Kids had the opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap, share their Christmas wishes, and of course get their pictures taken with him. Santa was portrayed by Matt Gardner.
The highlight of the night was the bicycle giveaway. A total of eight bikes were given away to the lucky winners of the bike drawing. The bikes were provided to the Community Club by the Newell Hardware Store. Drawings were held for boys and girls, by the age groups of 0-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. The bike winners this year are as follows:
GIRLS
0-3: Althea Harmon

The Newell Community Club’s commitment to organizing events like Santa Day, the generosity of local businesses and community members, and the willingness of the town to show up and bring their loved ones are all proof of the strength of Newell’s community spirit. Santa Day was successful yet again in spreading joy this holiday season.
