Community Supports Sam and Tyke Hanzlik

Newell News

NEWELL-The Newell community came together Friday evening to support two local men who are battling cancer. Sam and Tyke Hanzlik are brothers fighting a similar battle with different types of bone cancer.

Newell Lions Club did a spectacular job of feeding 250 folks from all over the area. Pancakes, sausage, biscuits, and good fellowship abounded as people gathered to show support for the brothers.

Included in the evening’s event was a silent auction with many items donated by community members. Auction items ranged from baby clothes and blankets to decorated wreaths and everything in between.

Neil Vollmer from the Newell Lions Club said that he thought it was the best attendance the club has ever had.

“And they were very generous folks,” he said.

The Hanzlik family was very appreciative of the support shown by the community. The Hanzliks have been part of the community for generations, Sam and Tyke are graduates of Newell High School, along with several other members of the family. The family ranched in the area for many years.
