NEWELL—The Newell, Vale, and Nisland area community came together at the Newell City Hall on Holy Thursday to celebrate Easter with a potluck dinner, fellowship, communion, and song. The evening began with a meal that was prepared by Connie Donahey, Judee Willson, and Dixie Seaman. People brought side dishes, salads, and desserts to share.
As everyone enjoyed dinner, Pastor Terri Dutton Blanchett of Newell’s Dakota Life Christian Center took a moment to thank those who came to the event and to recognize the churches in the community. These include Newell Christian Fellowship, Newell Baptist Church, Vale Community Country Church, Nisland Independent Community Church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and Dakota Life Christian Center. “We are so blessed that all of our churches come together for events and for our community,” she said.
John Locher then spoke on behalf of Newell Christian Fellowship. He described his experience of moving to the area with his family and being accepted and welcomed into the community through church. “Our differences are nothing compared to the agreements,” he said. “We are one family.”
Entertainment for the evening was provided by a special guest singer, Dave Wagner of Hulett, WY. Wagner performed country gospel songs alongside his wife, Denise Wagner, who helped with the sound equipment. The evening closed with Holy Communion led by Pastor Stephen Schaible.
“Not many communities come together like we do,” Terri Dutton Blanchett said. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it in the end.”
Dave Wagner performs country gospel music at the Easter potluck in Newell on Thursday evening, March 28.
