NEWELL, SD – The annual Newell Ram Show & Sale wrapped up its 78th year on Sept. 15. Just over 250 head of rams and ewes sold to buyers in 9 states. The sale averaged $575 for ewes and $941 for rams. Top selling lot was an entry from Chapman Rambouillets of Bison, S.D. Lot 17, a yearling stud ram, sold for $3,200.
Winning the Overall Champion Ram was the Rambouillet Yearling Stud Ram from Anika Bobb of Taylor, N.D. Overall Champion Ewe was the Suffolk Yearling Ewe Dave Pearson of Hettinger, N.D. Annika Bobb had the Grand Champion Pair of Ewes and Erk Bros. of Newell, SD had the Champion Pen of Range Rams. Winning the wool show was a Rambouillet fleece from Rabel, Forbes and McGivney of, Kaycee, WY.
The Raymond Garness Memorial Youth Credit went to Rollie Ohrtman of Long Valley, SD. He was able to take the $500 credit and apply it towards the purchase of a sheep on sale day at the Newell event.
