BELLE FOURCHE—Dinosaurs of the Hell Creek Museum took a spooky turn away from its usual educational atmosphere as it transformed into a haunted attraction for four nights of hauntingly good times from October 28–31.

The festivities kicked off Wednesday with Dungeons and Dinosaurs, the final session of a three-week, Cretaceous-themed Dungeons & Dragons campaign. The game featured a full group of players each week. During the last game, visitors were invited to watch, make decisions and interact with their favorite adventurers. The event was also streamed live on Facebook for people to participate from afar as well.

The large exterior wall of the building made for a perfect surface to project a movie for drive-in entertainment on Thursday evening. The show was an old movie from 1969. The evening was about celebrating the connection between dinosaurs and Hollywood.

Friday brought the Dino-Mite Halloween Party to the Dinosaur Museum. Turnout for the event saw around 50 people coming for a festive evening of haunted madness that included karaoke, games, snacks and a costume contest. The haunted museum provided a spooky backdrop for the fun festivities.

The four-night celebration wrapped up Saturday with Treat or Terror Night, inviting families to continue their Halloween adventures after the Belle Fourche Rec Center’s Spooktacular. Activities included trick-or-treating, a hunt for candy-filled pumpkins and a scavenger hunt challenging visitors to find six hidden spiders with prizes for finding all of them.

Throughout the celebration, the museum offered spooky attractions and Halloween treats, giving visitors a chance to experience the dinosaurs in a whole new atmosphere. The museum managed to combine Dungeons & Dragons, dinosaurs, karaoke and hidden spiders into four action-packed nights and offered a discounted rate to explore all that the haunted museum had to offer. Additionally, kids wearing dinosaur costumes got in free each day.

Be on the lookout for the next adventure at Dinosaurs of the Hell Creek Museum. They are hosting a Cretaceous Christmas Black Friday Weekend, featuring sales at the Expedition Outpost gift shop beginning Friday, November 27, and a silent auction with fossils, gift packages and more. On Saturday, November 28, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., local vendors will participate in the Shop Small Saturday Sale. There is no charge to shop at the gift shop or vendor booths, and museum admission will be half price at $6 per person before the museum closes for the winter.
