SPEARFISH, S.D.—South Dakota Kids Belong invites the community to an evening of stories, connection, and hope during its upcoming gala, Community Starts Here: An Evening with South Dakota Kids Belong, on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at Elkhorn Ridge Resort in Spearfish. Dinner will be provided by Fork Real Cafe, and tickets are $50 per person.

A child does not find belonging through one person alone. It takes families, neighbors, churches, businesses, volunteers, advocates, and friends all choosing to show up.

The evening will bring the community together to learn more about the work South Dakota Kids Belong is doing to create brighter futures for children and families impacted by foster care. Through meaningful stories and shared experiences, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of belonging and the role a strong community can play in the lives of children and families.

Proceeds from the event will support the mission of South Dakota Kids Belong to improve the experiences and outcomes of children and families in foster care by equipping families, engaging communities, and creating opportunities for individuals, businesses, and churches to support children in meaningful ways.
