BELLE FOURCHE—A warm, sunny day set the stage for this year’s Riverfest on Saturday, June 6, drawing crowds to the park area behind the Tri-State Museum and Center of the Nation Visitors Center along the banks of the Belle Fourche River. The event was hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.
Riverfest is a family-friendly celebration and the beginning to an exciting summer full of events in Belle Fourche. The gathering was free to attend and offered something for everyone. There was a variety of shopping from area vendors, educational booths and food trucks offering a range of food choices for the afternoon.
The Belle Fourche High School cheerleaders performed a dance routine and showcased a few cheers for the crowd.
For the kids, there was an entire area created just for them: the Kid Zone, with a bounce house, crafts, activities, games and a train ride. There were also balloon animals, and the cheerleaders raising money for the Macy’s Day Parade trip hosted a face painting booth.
For the third year in a row, the Hitching Post Tap House hosted the beer tent for adults.
The Naja Shriners held duck races. Ducks were on sale for $5 each or five for $20. At 1 p.m., the ducks were released. There were two heats on a makeshift pond using river water. The top three ducks from each heat advanced to a final heat of six to determine the fastest duck of the day.
