Rain Dampens but Doesn’t Stop Citywide Yard Sale

Belle Fourche News Other Local News

BELLE FOURCHE—There is nothing that says summer quite like going garage sale shopping on the weekends. The ideal yard sale weekend includes traveling around town in nice sunny weather, looking for secondhand treasures while hopping from neighborhood to neighborhood. Sounds like a good day, unless cold wind and rain decide to come through and mess up all the plans!

That is what happened at the Belle Fourche Citywide Yard Sale, held all around town on Saturday, June 13.

Hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, organizers were in charge of creating the list of all the households participating in the event. There were no rules; participants could pick their own hours and location for their sale.

A total of 43 houses, businesses or a combination of both signed up with the Chamber to have their sales advertised.

Some started as early as 6 a.m., others around 10 a.m., with others ending at that 10 a.m. start time and some going all the way until 5 p.m., with a variety of hours in between.

Well, that was how the day was supposed to go anyway; Mother Nature had other ideas. Saturday was chilly and overcast with rain. One by one, people posted online that because of the rain, their garage sale would be canceled or postponed a day. Although quite a few continued on rain or shine, and one person even used the weather as a selling point, saying they were ready to make rainy day deals.”
