Belle Fourche News Other Local News Sports

BELLE FOURCHE—On Thursday, April 16th, the Broncs high school track and field team travelled to Rapid City to the South Dakota School of Mines O’Hara Stadium for the Track-O-Rama meet with 24 schools competing . Coach Wattier comments that with many double A schools in attendance at such a large meet, just placing top 8 at this meet is tough to do.

Highlights of the Track-ORama meet on the boy’s side include Gabe Raba moving into 7th on the Belle Fourche High School Top 10 of All Time Leader Board in shot put with a throw of 45’-01.5”, and Gabe Raba and Joseph McLennon placing 6th and 7th respectively in the shot put. On the girl’s side, highlights of the meet included, Ansley O’Brien moving to 4th All Time on the school leader board in the high jump with a jump of 5’01” as well as placing 4th in the event and moving to 8th in the leader board in the 100 meter Hurdles. Betsy Moore moved to number 10 on the leader board in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 52.88. Mya Nowowiejski placed 8th in the 400 meter dash and Rhys Pearson placed 2nd in the 1600 meter run. The girls 4×4 relay team of Rhys Pearson, Betsy Moore, Ansley O’Brien, and Mikka Dunavant placed 6th at the meet.

The home meet that was scheduled for Saturday April 18th in Belle Fourche was cancelled due to inclement weather and will not be rescheduled due to the tight schedule of events on the calendar for the track team. The Broncs compete next at the Rapid City JV meet, which was changed to a JV and Varsity meet and will again be held at O’Hara Stadium, followed by the Custer Invite on Thursday April 23rd, weather permitting.

The middle school track and field team ran into inclement weather on a snowy Friday April 17th which prompted their home meet to be postponed to Friday April 24th at the Belle Fourche High School Track, weather permitting. The middle school will compete on Tuesday April 21st in Custer ahead of the home invite.
