BELLE FOURCHE—Downtown Belle was buzzing with holiday spirit as ladies gathered to enjoy a special evening created just for them at Prairie Hills Pharmacy on December 4.
This is the sixth year that the pharmacy has hosted the festive Ladies Night Out. “From the first year we started, we’ve held it every year on the first Thursday in December,” explained Cindy Cowan, co-owner of Prairie Hills Pharmacy. “It just gets bigger every year. Everyone starts looking forward to it because they know what’s going to happen!”
The invitation to the area ladies started going out to the community several weeks in advance to give everyone time to plan for a fun evening out. Delicious food and drink were offered for everyone to enjoy as they shopped. Deb Ward was in charge of the food and she made everything by hand. Many of the dips and sauces she created are mixes available to buy in the store. “She does a lot of stuff like this, she is amazing, anytime we need something done she does it,” shared Cowan.
One of the highlights of the evening is the wishlist. Everyone that comes into the store is given a wishlist on a clipboard and a pen to go around and write down items the shopper may want for Christmas. As ladies go through the store they take time to peruse all that is available and create a list of what they want for the upcoming holiday.
Participants choose from Navajo Silver, handbags, candles, pottery, snow globes, kitchen items, photo frames, lamps and so much more. The wishlist is given back to the store for anyone to come in at a later date and shop from it. “They love the wishlist because then they can send anyone in and they get what they want. And Santa, whoever it may be, knows they got the right gift,” explained Cowan.
“Everybody fills out the wishlist and then the guys love it because they come in, they can shop, they get 10% off, we wrap it for free, and they’re done,” explained Cheryl Westland, co-owner. “They know exactly what they want!”
The store moved to State Street and more than doubled in size. The bigger location has allowed the store to grow and offer more to the community. “It’s really been nice to be downtown because we get more walk in traffic, we’re more visible and the community is very good to us both on the pharmacy side and in here, they’re supportive and they seem to shop local, which is very much appreciated,” said Cowan. “It’s been super nice to be down on State Street, we like it a lot!”
