Highland Senior Solutions is now open! For the past several months out on Sourdough Road in
Belle Fourche, construction workers and their machines have been hard at work leveling the ground and plotting out some new buildings.
Today, two independent living structures and an adult day care services facility are standing where there was only an empty field just a few months ago.
Planning for a new adult day services facility to serve Belle Fourche and the surrounding Northern Black Hills Regions has been underway long before the earth movers arrived.
Although the independent living cottages will not be available until January, the adult day center, Highland Hills opened for business on Monday, December 17. Highland Hills is one of only three adult day services programs in South Dakota.
The new buildings are part of an expanded ‘care campus’ that includes Belle Estates Assisted Living facility. The ‘care campus’ model has been strategically designed to offer a seamless, supportive continuum of services for seniors.
The need for quality care options for families and seniors is indisputable as the population ages and people live longer.
Highland Solutions is one of only three adult day services programs in South Dakota
Facility director, Karli Jewett, explained that such an important service has never been available in this area until now and that there are myriad advantages. “We’re able to support not only our seniors.”
She noted that by providing day-time assistance for seniors, their caregivers will have time for needed respite.
Karli is clearly enthusiastic about the potential offered by Highland Senior Solutions. She added, “Adult day services allow older adults to stay in their homes longer, maintain their independence and their connections to communities”
She continued. “What truly makes us unique is our comprehensive, person-centered approach to care. We offer transportation and intentionally tailor each participant’s experiences to meet their individual needs, preferences, and abilities.
No two participants are the same, and we believe their care shouldn’t be either. We are also the first to offer Adult Day Services, Independent Living, and on-site medical services all in one location.”

Although the independent living quarters will not be available until January, the adult day care center, Highland Solutions opened for business on Monday, December 15.
An official celebratory ribbon cutting ceremony followed on Friday, December 19.
