SPEARFISH—A Ribbon Cutting ceremony and Open House kicked off the official grand opening and celebration of the Sundance State Bank on Wednesday, October 1, which included a performance by the Black Hills State University Drumline.
The opening of full-service branch, Sundance State Bank, September 17, 2025 was a long work in progress. Beginning approximately three years prior, the planning and process to start the new location began. “It takes a long time to just come with the drawings and then the vetting, the bidding process and then the build—it’s been a big process,” shared Melissa Barth, marketing and HR officer. “The initial groundbreaking for this build was October 11, 2024.”
The bank’s roots run deep in the area, dating back to when they first opened their doors in Spearfish as a Loan Production Office. “This is our second branch, the main branch is in Sundance Wyoming, we initially opened a Loan Production Office in Spearfish in 2014 so we’ve had a presence in the community for 11 years and we have a very strong customer base already,” explained Barth.
“Over the years, we have had many customers driving to Sundance to work with us, which led us to open a Loan Production Office in Spearfish in 2014,” said Andy Miller, president of Sundance State Bank. “We are excited to be expanding our Spearfish location into a full-service branch. Spearfish has been a great fit for our style of banking, and we look forward to building even more relationships here.”
Expanding from an LPO to a full-service bank allows the new location to offer more services to the community. Everything from checking and savings accounts, home and agricultural loans, safe deposit boxes and ATMs to online banking. “With the new branch, we can better serve our current customers while also welcoming new ones into the Sundance State Bank family. We welcome you to come and check out our new branch and open an account today,” said Jerome Greger, vice president.
The Spearfish location has ten employees, with over half of them being graduates of Black Hills State University further strengthening the deep roots the bank has to the area.
The history of Sundance State Bank dates back to 1895, when it first opened its doors in downtown Sundance, Wyoming. 130 years later and the bank remains locally owned, financially strong, and committed to meeting the financial needs of its customers with a community-focused approach.
You can find the newest location of the Sundance State Bank, Spearfish Branch at 2530 Yukon Place in The Village at Creekside.
