When you read about outstanding young athletes around the USA it seems like they come from Texas, California, or some state back east.
Not so with Quentin Adams, the grandson of Belle Fourche residents John and Tracy Adams and son of daughter Jenna Adams of Edina, Minnesota who is in the final running for a competition that could name him “Sports Illustrated’s Youth Athlete of the Year!
The past several weeks we have participated by voting for Quentin. Voting is free.
You too still have time to vote as well. Log onto: https://athleteoftheyear.org/2025/quentin-0509 to do so.
Contest background for the young athlete:
What do they love most about playing their sport(s)?
Quentin has a deep passion for both football and baseball. He thrives on the energy of the game and the bond with his teammates. Whether on the field or off, he leads by example-with heart, hustle, and humility. He loves being part of something bigger than himself and takes pride in lifting others up. His dedication, team-first mindset, and natural leadership make him a standout in any environment.
Who inspires them–on or off the field–and why?
Quentin honors his late football coach, RM, by wearing his initials on every helmet–to the mentor who deeply inspired him. Every coach he’s had, in both baseball and football, has helped shape him with training, support, and belief.
He’s consistently praised as the most coachable player they’ve worked with—driven, respectful, and always ready to improve..
What’s one moment in their athletic journey that makes you proudest?
When Quentin broke his femur, everything changed. The long recovery taught him grit, patience, and resilience. He came back stronger and more driven than ever. Now he plays with heart—knowing what it feels like to almost lose the game he loves.
Off the field, he gives back by coaching youth football, volunteering, and playing pickleball with senior citizens five days a week—showing the same leadership, positivity, and dedication he brings to every team.
