The fourth annual ‘Fishing at the Fair’ was held on Wednesday, July 30st, during the Butte Lawrence County Fair in Nisland. It was another successful, well attended event by children of all ages.

The event was open to children ages 5-18. There is never an entry fee. Children simply show up and fish. They have the option of bringing their own fishing gear or are welcome to use the gear and bait provided by Bachman.

The event originated and is spearheaded by Mark Bachman who recruited members of the High Plains Anglers to help bait hooks and weigh fish during the event. “When the riverbank is lined with excited children catching fish, it keeps us running all morning.” said Bachman.

Special thanks to High Plains Anglers members who come out to help and enjoy the fishing with the children. Bachman is grateful for the participation and the assistance.

“It’s all about the kids. They have a good time, and so do we. We are all looking forward to continuing this event for many years.”

The coveted winner’s plaques were made by NN Engraving and awarded to the following: Biggest Fish: Ty Ewing; Smallest Fish, Mariah Todd; Most Fish: Miles Gonzales

Congratulations to all. See you at the ‘2026 Fishing at the Fair.’
