Shaine Weishaar Wins DAR Good Citizenship Award

Shaine Allivia Weishaar is honored as the area winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Scholarship. The area consists of Belle Fourche High School, Bison High School, Faith High School, Harding County High School, Lead-Deadwood High School, Lemmon High School, Newell High School, Red Cloud High School, Spearfish High School, Sturgis Brown High School, and Takini High School. 

    The winner must exhibit dependability, truthfulness, loyalty, punctuality and trustworthiness. They must demonstrate cooperation, courtesy, and contribute to the welfare of others, showing leadership, self-control, and the ability to assume responsibility and the ability to inspire others. The winner must display devotion to and support of one’s country, supporting service members and veterans, working for causes that make one’s community stronger and appreciating the cultural and historic importance of America’s unique population. 

     Each applicant must submit a timed essay that has been administered under the supervision of a faculty member. It must be completed in one sitting within a two-our time limit and without assistance or reference materials. Each entry is evaluated by three independent, non-DAR judges. The winner is advanced through state and national levels of judging. 

     Shaine Weishaar has won both the local area and has won the South Dakota state level. She will present her essay at the DAR state convention this spring.
