NISLAND—The Nisland-Arpan Fire & Rescue Auxiliary held a potato topper meal at the Nisland Fire Hall on Saturday, March 16. This year marked the 14th annual year for the fundraiser. Held near St. Patrick’s Day every year, the fire hall was transformed into a cozy space with green St. Patrick’s Day-themed décor.
Community members and out-of-towners alike showed their support with free-will donations for the potato supper. A variety of novel potato toppings were offered, including cheddar cheese sauce, corn chowder, beef, chili, and sausage gravy. “It’s such a fun thing to try different things that you would never put on a potato,” said Amber Wich, one of the women who helped prepare and serve the supper. She said that people were surprised by how many toppings were available. Upon asking one man which topping was his favorite, he paused for a moment before declaring, “All of them!”
The event’s turnout was so large that it ran out of some food. People came all the way from Spearfish and Whitewood to show their support and eat a delicious meal. Along with the potato supper was a silent auction, which offered items such as kitchen gadgets, paper airplane packets, Easter baskets, home décor, and jewelry.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the Nisland-Arpan Fire & Rescue Auxiliary.
