Ferne Elaine Wallace, loving wife, mother and grandmother, age 92 of Belle Fourche, died Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Heartland Assisted Living.
She was born June 18,1931 in Brookings, South Dakota to Arthur and Etola Justice. Ferne lived on her family farm and excelled in school. While in school, Ferne participated in the high school orchestra playing the violin. She was also a member of the local 4-H club, serving as president her senior year. Ferne was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed playing her entire life. She then attended South Dakota State University, graduating with a Home Economics degree.
On June 19,1955, Ferne married the love of her life Lloyd Wallace. The couple settled in Belle Fourche where she worked as Home Ec teacher. Ferne enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening.
Survivors include her husband Lloyd, Belle Fourche; daughter Susan (Wallace) Kennon and husband James, Sulphur Springs, Texas; son Lee Wallace and wife Denise, Belle Fourche; sister Janice Justice, Virginia; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A service and celebration of life will be held June 28th at 10:30 AM at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Scottish Rite Hospital or St. Jude’s Hospital.
