Belle Fourche News

Former finance officer Jason LaFayette was appointed to fill the city administrator role during the Feb. 5 meeting of the city council.

Mayor Randy Schmidt, who appointed LaFayette to the position, performed the procedural oath of office and presented a certificate of appointment to LaFayette during the regular agenda of the meeting.

LaFayette was hired with a starting wage of $103,000 annual salary as an exempt employee.

He officially began the duties of the new position Feb. 6.

LaFayette was appointed the city finance officer in August 2022.

LaFayette filled the role that was left vacant for three months after Bob Nelson, Jr., who resigned the position in early November 2023. On Aug. 1, 2022, Nelson was sworn in as the city’s first ever city administrator.
