NEWELL—The Irrigator basketball teams played a double header vs. the Wall Eagles on Monday, February 5. Although the girls fought hard against Wall and even started off ahead of the opponent in points, the game ultimately ended in a loss for Newell’s Lady Irrigators. The final score was 43-83. Unfortunately, the boys’ team suffered the same fate with a loss against the Eagles.

Despite the losses, the games still provided a fun atmosphere along with several other events. The girls’ basketball team held a drawing for a beautiful star quilt, donated by Pandi Pittman of the Quilt Bank, during halftime of the boys’ game. Newell High School’s junior class also held its second annual chili cook-off at the game. Additionally, Randy Oliver, local youth basketball coach and inspiration for over 30 years, was honored at halftime during the girls’ basketball game.

The Lady Irrigators will compete in basketball regions starting February 19, while the boys’ team starts regions on February 26.
