Margaret Crago may think that when she walks out the door of the La Mode Dress Shop in Spearfish, no longer its owner, it will be out of sight, out of mind. Wrong, Margaret!
How can the local communities she has served so well these past 46 years ever forget the petite, fashionably dressed, superbly coiffed, always smiling Margaret!
Over and above everything else, she’s a native South Dakotan, born and raised in the Pierre area. She met her husband Vince while earning a teaching degree at Black Hills State in Spearfish.
Following two years of teaching, she and Vince married and settled on their ranch mid-way between Belle Fourche and Spearfish. raising three sons. Once the boys were grown, and with Vince’s wholehearted support, Margaret realized her life-long dream of owning a dress shop. La Mode! Today 92-year-old Margaret continues to live on the ranch, sadly without Vince who passed away 17 years ago. But with her sons and their families still close by.
Her grandson Colby and his wife Tanya are the dress shop’s new owners. Out of sight, out of mind? How about absence makes the heart grow fonder! Right, Margaret!
